Perfection for a bespoke craftsman often means venturing to places where no one else has gone. Such was the case for a client from Hong Kong who dreamed of making hangers out of distinctive Zebrano wood. It is a relatively rare wood with a bold grain that presents a great challenge in terms of meeting our high-standard processes, locating 10 cm thick boards is still very challenging. Our commitment was clear throughout the purchasing process, as the value of the raw materials was greater than the value of a brand-new car.
After we procured the Zebrano, the next big task was to turn its mighty boards into hangers that could both be beautiful and strong. As with custom work, the client desired a velour finish, but in this instance, we opted for something else altogether. Instead of a velour finish, which we felt would have dulled the wood's beauty, a soft, tactile coating – liquid nano silicone – was applied. This approach not only respects the material’s nature but also enhances the feeling.
In regard to the design customization, the customer added extra requests for crossbars. To achieve the luxury standard, we added hand-stitched crossbars covered in suede using a method that has since become associated with our most opulent lines. A hanger made from Zebrano wood, silicone, and suede was not only functional but truly bespoke, epitomizing the zenith of luxury custom craftsmanship.
